Festival Regulations

About Application

  • As the number of participants is limited, we accept applications on the first-come-first-served basis. After that, all other applicants will be sent to the waiting list. Once the quota of accepted participants is reached, we will make an announcement in the Festival website. We highly recommend you to register in advance and not to wait for the application deadline to ensure your participation in the festival.

  • Entry Fees are non-refundable once received, except in the case of class cancellation.

On the day of the festival

  • It is essential that all participants must arrive 15 minutes before the start of the assigned session to which you belong. Failure to arrive at the venue 15 minutes before the end of the event may result in the participant being unable to perform on stage and facing possible disqualification.

  • Given the festival's focus on music sharing and upholding stage performance etiquette, it is recommended that entrants dress appropriately and engage with their audience by providing a simple introduction, such as "Hello, my name is James, and I will be performing Mozart Sonatina in C." Participants should bow at the conclusion of their performance.

  • During performance, we strictly prohibit entry to or exit from the venue.

  • Playing by memory is encouraged but not necessary.

  • Please adhere to the time limits for performances as outlined in the syllabus. If a performance exceeds its allotted time, the adjudicator may signal its conclusion by ringing a bell.

  • The association will conduct live filming for all performances, with videos being distributed to all performers as mementos of the festival. The association retains the authority to utilize the footage for promotional purposes. Recording by any other parties besides association helpers is prohibited to avoid interference with performers.

  • Each applicant is entitled to bring along one accompanist and two guests, who will have full-day access to the festival free of charge.

Adjudication

  • Every performer or group of performers will receive an adjudication sheet on the day of the event.

  • After the event, all performers will receive a digital certificate of the award they have earned. We also offer printing services for these certificates, though an additional charge will apply.

  • The festival's goal is to encourage music sharing and cultivate young talent through professional guidance from adjudicators. Depending on the quality of their performance, all participants will be awarded a gold, silver, or bronze medal. The "Best Performance Award" will be announced at the end of each session on the event day, and a trophy will be presented as a token of appreciation.

  • The criteria for distinguishing among gold, silver or bronze medal awards are as follows:

・Gold Medal: A performance of excellent quality both in technical execution and artistic expression.

・Silver Medal: A performance demonstrating solid artistic appreciation and technical ability

・Bronze Medal: A performance demonstrating sufficient involvement and general control.

  • Awards are at the discretion of the Adjudicators. The Adjudicators' decisions are final and cannot be questioned or appealed.

  • The Festival reserves the right to replace or engage additional Adjudicators if necessary.

Promotion

  • London Joy of Music may utilize videos and photos of any performances captured during the festival to promote our event. Should you prefer not to display your face(s), kindly email us. We will promptly either exclude the relevant videos or obscure the face(s) in the particular photos.
